American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Torrance is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Torrance is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Oh my god, its so good. When I went in, I was on different plane of existence and the staff was helpful. I was soooo big and greedy and got like 5 things and they were all delicious I was licking the wrappers.

This evening, I specifically ordered a red bean and taro cake to celebrate my motherβs birthday. After dinner, we immediately took out the cake and cut it. However, the very first bite tasted sour. When we smelled it more closely, there was a strong spoiled, sour odor. It completely ruined the mood of the celebration, so I decided to leave this review to make the owner aware of the issue. Was there a problem with the refrigerator temperature? Did the taro filling spoil because of the hot weather? Or had the white cream gone bad? This was extremely disappointing. I sincerely hope the management takes this matter seriously and thoroughly checks the storage conditions, ingredients, and freshness of the cakes.

I come to visit family from out-of-town and this is my dad's go-to for bakery treats. I've tried a lot of random offerings from the store and they've all been good. I'm ethnically Chinese and I grew up eating a lot of pastries from both Boston and NYC Chinatowns and I think they do a good interpretation of a bbq pork bao. Most of their offerings have a more contemporary/chic feel to them, as opposed to the traditional bao and pastries you'd find in a Chinatown. My dad's favorite is the curry beef pie, my mom likes the matcha almond croissant, and we all like the egg tarts. I enjoy their menu items with pork sung. The store layout is pretty simple and designed to get you in and out. There is no seating. DISABILITY ACCESS: Lastly, if you or someone in your party is wheelchair bound, the only ramp for the sidewalk is in the CORNER of the strip mall. You may be able to hop the curb if you have an able bodied adult to with you, but you may want to park a little farther away, closer to the ramp, if you don't.

JJ Bakery used to be one of my favorites in Torrance. I bought their soft red bean bread, but when I cut it in half and took a bite, I felt like something was missing. I looked inside and was honestly shockedβit was practically empty. I checked the other half just in case, and it was the same story. I donβt think Iβll be going back for a while.

Review of J.J. Bakery β A Taste of Taiwan with a European Touch J.J. Bakery is truly a hidden gem for Taiwanese pastries and desserts in California. From the moment you step in, youβre greeted with the aroma of freshly baked goods, all made daily to ensure freshness and quality. Their selection of Taiwanese-style pastries, bread, and desserts is both diverse and delightful, making it a must-visit for anyone who appreciates well-crafted baked goods. One of the standout items was the beef turnover, which was incredibly flavorful and perfectly baked. The coconut dessert was another highlightβrich, delicate, and full of flavor, yet light enough to leave you wanting more. What sets J.J. Bakery apart is how well-balanced their desserts are. Unlike many overly sweet confections, their pastries have a refined sweetness that is reminiscent of European bakeries, making them enjoyable without being overwhelming. The customer service was excellent. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to describe each item and offer recommendations. Even though everything is carefully packaged for safety and hygiene reasons, the quality remains top-notch, ensuring that every bite is as
